Habitat is all about community. People living and working in our community, helping others who live and work in our community. Come join us. We promise that you will have fun!
We are very grateful to the many area businesses that made generous contributions of time, materials, expertise, and financial gifts to help us completely renovate the home we finished in Fair Haven, that we completed on Cleveland Avenue in Rutland City, and are now building on Griswold Drive in Rutland. We urge people who support Habitat's mission to consider supporting these fine businesses. Without their generous support, we could not be successful.
This is a list of the organizations that helped us with gifts of $1,000 or more. Scroll down to read more about each organization.

Allstate Insurance
We are most grateful to the Allstate Insurance Company and its foundation for their strong interest in affordable housing and for their generous financial support and hands-on help. Bill Vien of the Rutland, Vermont and Manchester, NH Allstate Agencies organized a build day for Allstate staff at the home we are building on 25 Griswold Drive in Rutland, Vermont. As an all-volunteer organization, the only way we get anything done is to live what we know, "Many hands make light work!" Our community is very fortunate to have a business like Allstate invested and involved in strengthening the community where its employees live and work. We are indeed in "Good Hands with Allstate!"
In December of 2021, the Allstate Foundation made a special Helping Hands Grant of $5,000 to be used to make storm windows that fit windows inside the house, making homes cooler in summer and warmer in winter. In addition, Allstate employees will help to build and install the storm window inserts. We are very grateful to the Allstate Foundation and Bill Vien, Allstate Insurance Agent in Rutland, for their generous support that is sure to save area residents considerable money and will make their homes more comfortable throughout the year.

Carris Reels was founded in Rutland, Vermont in 1951 by Henry Carris. This business was Henry's life's work, and he built the business from the ground up during the 50's, 60's and 70's on a foundation of operational excellence. The saying "get the wood out" became, and remains part of the corporate culture. By the time Henry retired in 1980 he had built a multi-million dollar business capable of withstanding the tests of time. In 1980 Bill Carris took over the business from his father, Henry. Early on, Bill and his management team faced many challenges, including a devastating fire on June 10, 1981 and an oppressive recession. In the face of these challenges Bill nurtured the company and set the company on an aggressive growth plan that included start-ups and acquisitions and extended the company's geographic reach. During this time period, the company developed the most varied and extensive product line in the industry, and the ability to manufacture its own bolts and paper tubes.
In 1994 Bill Carris wrote a document that called for a change from a privately held company to an employee-owned and governed organization is a break with tradition. Today, the vision has been realized. In keeping with Bill’s vision, the employees make decisions about how they are going to contribute to the community, both in terms of volunteer time, but also contributing financially. We are extremely grateful to Carris Reels employees for making a generous contribution in support of Habitat’s work in Rutland County.

Casella Waste Systems, Inc. and its predecessor companies were founded in 1975 as Casella's Refuse Removal in Rutland, Vermont. On a chilly day in early April, Doug Casella began picking up garbage from a few customers in the Rutland and Killington region with a pickup truck he had bought with money saved from jobs he’d had as a kid in high school. Because the service was good, the small enterprise grew, and John Casella joined his younger brother a year later to help run the business.
In 1977 they built the state's first, recycling facility in Vermont. It was an inspired vision, one that anticipated the opportunities around resource renewal as well as viewing waste management as an integrated set of services – collection, recycling, transfer, and disposal.
Since 2000, the company has moved more aggressively to supplement traditional waste management services with its expertise in resource renewal and sustainability. It has consistently led the industry in offering services and infrastructure that help communities and customers sustain – economically as well as environmentally – the planet’s limited resources.
Today, with a clear strategy to serve its customers with integrated services, Casella continues to lead the solid waste industry with an innovative business strategy that seeks to create sustainable value beyond the traditional waste disposal model. Casella views waste as a resource for producing renewable energy and as a raw material for manufacturing new products.
Casella’s local outreach programs support the communities where Casella employees and stakeholders live and work. Casella’s focus is to support programs that enhance our environment, our communities, and our future. When Casella employees learned that Habitat for Humanity of Rutland County had selected one of their employees, Hassam Alhallak and Hazar Mansour and their three children, to live in a Habitat house, Casella employees contributed over $16,000 that was matched by the company for a total contribution of $33,000 to purchase building supplies for the home! This gift speaks volumes about the commitment of Casella and Casella employees to the Rutland Community and its employees.

EFFICIENCY VERMONT
We partner with Efficiency Vermont to keep construction costs down and make sure our homes are safe, healthy, durable and affordable over the long term. Efficiency Vermont is the nation's first statewide provider of energy efficiency services. Funded by an energy efficiency charge on Vermonter’s electric bills, Efficiency Vermont is an independent, non-profit organization under contract to the Vermont Public Service Board. They provide technical advice, financial assistance and design guidance to help make Vermont homes, farms, schools and businesses energy efficient.
We receive a rebate for meeting specific requirements for insulation, ventilation, use of energy efficient appliances, and lighting. There needs to be an Energy Star ventilation fan on a 24-hour timer. The heating system, refrigerator and dishwasher must be ENERGY STAR labeled. We install no fewer than eight hard-wired fixtures for energy efficient lights and each of our homes meets insulation and air sealing standards. We invest in good windows. Our houses are very tight; built to withstand Vermont’s cold winters. To learn about energy efficient appliances go to Energy Star Appliances.
The Efficiency Vermont website contains lots of practical advice for residential and business users. By calling 888-921-5900, people can learn how to lower their energy bills, figure out why their electric bills are high, and get rebates for their energy-efficient purchases. In addition, people can get technical help and learn about financial incentives for energy-efficient buildings, equipment and lighting.
We hope our good building practices and use of energy saving devices will serve as an example for other homeowners. If we can afford to incorporate energy efficiency into an affordable home, anybody can! Vermont's reduction of carbon dioxide in 2005, through energy efficiency in homes and businesses, provided the same emissions reductions that would have been achieved if 76, 300 fewer cars had traveled on Vermont's roads in 2005. Everyone can be part of reducing Vermont’s carbon emissions by following our example and working with Efficiency Vermont to reduce energy use.

Peoples United Bank - Over the years employees of the People's United Bank have been very supportive of Habitat for Humanity's work in Rutland County. They have volunteered frequently to help build and have always found time to help us by giving constructive suggestions that enable us to do more to help our community. In addition, the People's United Bank Foundation has made special grants for the homes we built on Cleveland Avenue, Griswold Drive and, in 2019, on Crescent Street. We are extremely grateful for their generous support and their keen insight into the need for housing that is truly affordable for lower-income Rutland County residents.
On November 14th, members of the People's United Bank staff helped insulate the house on Crescent Street in Rutland. They met Hazar and Hussam Alhallak who will be living in this home when it is complete. They have three young children.
The bankers had a lot of fun on their "banker's holliday, and we are most appreciative of their commitment to helping Rutland area residents enjoy the stability that comes from having a secure, safe, and affordable place to call home.

N•B•F Architects, P.C. was founded in downtown Rutland in 1975 by Ralph Nimtz. John Berryhill joined the firm in 1980, and Alvin Figiel in 1983. In addition to the three principals, the firm has since grown to include a staff of four, and has enjoyed working on a diverse range of projects from small residential additions to large public buildings. With each project we work with our client to conceive, develop, and achieve their vision for the future, with inspired design and sensitivity to schedule and budget.
N•B•F Architects is committed to the preservation of downtown businesses and buildings, and has practiced in the same downtown location since the beginning days of the firm. We have been fortunate to participate in the revitalization of downtown Rutland, and remain active in the community in our daily lives. We love to be involved in projects that have a positive impact on our community, and our Vermont way of life.
We are grateful to John Berryhill of NBF Architects P.C. who will design the first house we will build in Rutland City. The challenge is to design a home that is aesthetically pleasing, that fits with the neighborhood, that is highly energy efficient, that is affordable for a low-income household, that is sufficient in size for the home buyer, that is cost effective to maintain, and that volunteers can build. We look forward to working with John and applaud his decision to contribute to the Rutland community in this way.

a national partner and long-term supporter, Schneider Electric has donated more than $24 million worth of electrical equipment—Square D by Schneider Electric and Juno by Schneider Electric—to build homes in the United States, Canada and Mexico since 2000. In addition, the company has donated more than $4 million worth of funding to help cover the cost of land, infrastructure and homebuilding materials. Schneider Electric also supplies volunteers to build houses nationwide and has been a multiyear supporter of the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter Work Project.
As a National Partner and a Cornerstone Society member of Habitat’s "More Than Houses” campaign, Schneider Electric has donated almost $6 million worth of residential electrical equipment for use in homes built in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. In 2006, Schneider Electric renewed its commitment to Habitat with a pledge to donate $7 million worth of Square D® residential electrical equipment over the next four-and-a-half years. In addition, many of our people dedicate time and muscle to Habitat home builds.
NEED TO UPDATE THIS STATEMENT --- To further underscore our commitment to Habitat for Humanity, in 2007 the Schneider Electric/Square D Foundation will fund up to seven whole house sponsorships. The sponsorships fully fund the cost of the land, infrastructure and materials to build a Habitat home. The Foundation also funds the cost for employee teams to participate in one-day home building events.
NEED TO UPDATE THIS STATEMENT --- According to Habitat, 5.1 million American families have "worst-case" housing needs and are forced to pay more than half their income for housing, endure overcrowded conditions or live in houses with severe physical deficiencies. Worldwide, some 2 billion people live in poverty housing. More than 1 billion live in urban slums, and that figure is expected to double by 2030.
Working in partnership with low-income families to build decent homes they can afford to buy, Habitat helps to break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness. We believe in the efforts of Habitat for Humanity and our role in facilitating our people’s involvement in Habitat activities in their communities.
As a global specialist in energy management with operations in more than 100 countries, Schneider Electric offers integrated solutions across multiple market segments, including leadership positions in energy and infrastructure, industrial processes, building automation, and data centers/networks, as well
as a broad presence in residential applications. Focused on making energy safe, reliable, and
efficient, the company's 110,000 plus employees achieved sales of more than $26 billion in 2010, through an active commitment to help individuals and organizations “Make the most of their energy.”

Rob Stubbins Electrical and General Contractor
Rob volunteered his services to complete all the electrical work on the Fair Haven home. And, he has volunteered to work with us again at the home we are building on Cleveland Avenue in Rutland City. Rob and his employees are extremely generous and very mindful of the needs of hard-working Vermonters who, with a little but of help, can build a brighter future. We are very grateful to Rob and his employees for all they do to help us and the community in which they live and work.
Dear Rutland County Habitat for Humanity BOD,
Over the years, the Lord has blessed me with the desire and ability to work with my hands to build and fix things and to use those abilities to help others. As my business grew, I decided to formally establish the core values I have lived and worked by. Two of those values are character development and community outreach. As a business, we want to encourage these ideals with our team members and hope that by working with groups like Habitat, they will embrace these values and continue in our mission of community outreach.
Rob Stubbins Electrical is both privileged and honored to be among the many volunteers who endeavor to leave a lasting impact on our community.
Sincerely,
Rob Stubbins

Stewart’s Holiday Match customers have helped us contribute over $28 million to thousands of organizations since the program’s inception in 1986. As a good corporate citizen, we support a local charity at many of our new shop openings.
We are very grateful to Stewart's Shops for their generous financial support. Two of their stores are located less than a mile from the first two homes we have built in Rutland. Their help has had a very positive impact on the Rutland Community.
HOW DOES IT WORK?It is never a question of whether we’ll give, but rather to whom. We try to be as generous as possible to a large number of organizations, but are committed to making the maximum positive impact in the categories we consider a priority. The breakdown of the categories for Stewart’s Shops donation of $2.5 million is as follows:
Our selection of organizations is based on the following considerations: We support organizations within our market area that focus on meeting the changing needs of their recipients rather than perpetuating the status quo. We have an interest in the area of kids, their recreation and education. We do not support adult recreation groups. We value extensive volunteer support and minimum fund-raising costs, avoiding organizations which are already tax supported or have a large amount of overhead.

Charitable Giving
"VELCO has a long history of employee involvement and corporate contribution within the communities where we live, work and volunteer. At VELCO, we support partners working within our focus areas of safety, community, education, arts, grid modernization, economic development, and environmental stewardship. While we cannot honor every request, we do carefully consider them all and pay particular attention to requests from those organizations where our employees invest their time and energy."
We were thrilled to receive word in March 2021 that VELCO had decided to contribute $2,500 to help us purchase building supplies for the home we will be building at 5 Hickory Street in Rutland. In addition, they plan to organize a "build day" when VELCO employees will help to build the home. We are most grateful to VELCO for their generous support and for their strong interest in helping our community to have more affordable housing available for lower-income residents.

The Vision and Values of Wells Fargo
“Our values should guide every conversation, decision, and interaction. Our values should anchor every product and service we provide and every channel we operate.”
Documents such as this are rare these days in corporate America. Most companies have a mission statement and a set of core values, but few for as long as we’ve had The Vision & Values of Wells Fargo. Even fewer have resisted fads and remained faithful to their founding principles. We have stayed true to our vision for more than two decades.
In those two decades, a lot has changed. We’ve seen advances in technology and communications we could not have imagined only a few years ago. We’ve seen the U.S. population grow more diverse and the globalization of almost every aspect of our lives. We’ve witnessed periods of economic growth and decline and the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. We’ve seen the collapse of major financial institutions and a new wave of industry regulations. Through all of this, we’ve seen the needs and interests of our customers and stakeholders change, and we’ve adapted right along with them.
Our progress has not been perfect. The expectations of others, and the even higher expectations we have of ourselves, have not always been met. When we make mistakes, we admit them, we learn from them, and we keep moving forward with even more understanding and a deeper commitment to doing what’s right.
We are grateful to Wells Fargo for deciding to give us the deed to a home in Fair Haven on which the bank had been forced to foreclose. Their goal was to turn a house that had been badly neglected and needed a tremendous amount of work into a home that could provide good housing for a family in need. In addition to the gift of the land, Wells Fargo also made a significant cash contribution to help pay some of the construction cost. The gift of the property and the generous cash contribution was exactly what we needed to complete our first project. Chris Heintz, Board President
