Habitat is all about community. People living and working in our community, helping others who live and work in our community. Come join us. We promise that you will have fun!
We are very grateful to the many area businesses that made generous contributions of time, materials, expertise, and financial gifts to help us completely renovate the home we just finished in Fair Haven. We urge people who support Habitat's mission to consider supporting these fine businesses. Without their generous support, we could not be successful.

Carris Reels was founded in Rutland, Vermont in 1951 by Henry Carris. This business was Henry's life's work, and he built the business from the ground up during the 50's, 60's and 70's on a foundation of operational excellence. The saying "get the wood out" became, and remains part of the corporate culture. By the time Henry retired in 1980 he had built a multi-million dollar business capable of withstanding the tests of time. In 1980 Bill Carris took over the business from his father, Henry. Early on, Bill and his management team faced many challenges, including a devastating fire on June 10, 1981 and an oppressive recession. In the face of these challenges Bill nurtured the company and set the company on an aggressive growth plan that included start-ups and acquisitions and extended the company's geographic reach. During this time period, the company developed the most varied and extensive product line in the industry, and the ability to manufacture its own bolts and paper tubes.
In 1994 Bill Carris wrote a document that called for a change from a privately held company to an employee-owned and governed organization is a break with tradition. Today, the vision has been realized. In keeping with Bill’s vision, the employees make decisions about how they are going to contribute to the community, both in terms of volunteer time, but also contributing financially. We are extremely grateful to Carris Reels employees for making a generous contribution in support of Habitat’s work in Rutland County.

EFFICIENCY VERMONT
We partner with Efficiency Vermont to keep construction costs down and make sure our homes are safe, healthy, durable and affordable over the long term. Efficiency Vermont is the nation's first statewide provider of energy efficiency services. Funded by an energy efficiency charge on Vermonter’s electric bills, Efficiency Vermont is an independent, non-profit organization under contract to the Vermont Public Service Board. They provide technical advice, financial assistance and design guidance to help make Vermont homes, farms, schools and businesses energy efficient.
We receive a rebate for meeting specific requirements for insulation, ventilation, use of energy efficient appliances, and lighting. There needs to be an Energy Star ventilation fan on a 24-hour timer. The heating system, refrigerator and dishwasher must be ENERGY STAR labeled. We install no fewer than eight hard-wired fixtures for energy efficient lights and each of our homes meets insulation and air sealing standards. We invest in good windows. Our houses are very tight; built to withstand Vermont’s cold winters. To learn about energy efficient appliances go to Energy Star Appliances.
The Efficiency Vermont website contains lots of practical advice for residential and business users. By calling 888-921-5900, people can learn how to lower their energy bills, figure out why their electric bills are high, and get rebates for their energy-efficient purchases. In addition, people can get technical help and learn about financial incentives for energy-efficient buildings, equipment and lighting.
We hope our good building practices and use of energy saving devices will serve as an example for other homeowners. If we can afford to incorporate energy efficiency into an affordable home, anybody can! Vermont's reduction of carbon dioxide in 2005, through energy efficiency in homes and businesses, provided the same emissions reductions that would have been achieved if 76, 300 fewer cars had traveled on Vermont's roads in 2005. Everyone can be part of reducing Vermont’s carbon emissions by following our example and working with Efficiency Vermont to reduce energy use.

N•B•F Architects, P.C. was founded in downtown Rutland in 1975 by Ralph Nimtz. John Berryhill joined the firm in 1980, and Alvin Figiel in 1983. In addition to the three principals, the firm has since grown to include a staff of four, and has enjoyed working on a diverse range of projects from small residential additions to large public buildings. With each project we work with our client to conceive, develop, and achieve their vision for the future, with inspired design and sensitivity to schedule and budget.
N•B•F Architects is committed to the preservation of downtown businesses and buildings, and has practiced in the same downtown location since the beginning days of the firm. We have been fortunate to participate in the revitalization of downtown Rutland, and remain active in the community in our daily lives. We love to be involved in projects that have a positive impact on our community, and our Vermont way of life.
We are grateful to John Berryhill of NBF Architects P.C. who will design the first house we will build in Rutland City. The challenge is to design a home that is aesthetically pleasing, that fits with the neighborhood, that is highly energy efficient, that is affordable for a low-income household, that is sufficient in size for the home buyer, that is cost effective to maintain, and that volunteers can build. We look forward to working with John and applaud his decision to contribute to the Rutland community in this way.

a national partner and long-term supporter, Schneider Electric has donated more than $24 million worth of electrical equipment—Square D by Schneider Electric and Juno by Schneider Electric—to build homes in the United States, Canada and Mexico since 2000. In addition, the company has donated more than $4 million worth of funding to help cover the cost of land, infrastructure and homebuilding materials. Schneider Electric also supplies volunteers to build houses nationwide and has been a multiyear supporter of the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter Work Project.
As a National Partner and a Cornerstone Society member of Habitat’s "More Than Houses” campaign, Schneider Electric has donated almost $6 million worth of residential electrical equipment for use in homes built in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. In 2006, Schneider Electric renewed its commitment to Habitat with a pledge to donate $7 million worth of Square D® residential electrical equipment over the next four-and-a-half years. In addition, many of our people dedicate time and muscle to Habitat home builds.
NEED TO UPDATE THIS STATEMENT --- To further underscore our commitment to Habitat for Humanity, in 2007 the Schneider Electric/Square D Foundation will fund up to seven whole house sponsorships. The sponsorships fully fund the cost of the land, infrastructure and materials to build a Habitat home. The Foundation also funds the cost for employee teams to participate in one-day home building events.
NEED TO UPDATE THIS STATEMENT --- According to Habitat, 5.1 million American families have "worst-case" housing needs and are forced to pay more than half their income for housing, endure overcrowded conditions or live in houses with severe physical deficiencies. Worldwide, some 2 billion people live in poverty housing. More than 1 billion live in urban slums, and that figure is expected to double by 2030.
Working in partnership with low-income families to build decent homes they can afford to buy, Habitat helps to break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness. We believe in the efforts of Habitat for Humanity and our role in facilitating our people’s involvement in Habitat activities in their communities.
As a global specialist in energy management with operations in more than 100 countries, Schneider Electric offers integrated solutions across multiple market segments, including leadership positions in energy and infrastructure, industrial processes, building automation, and data centers/networks, as well
as a broad presence in residential applications. Focused on making energy safe, reliable, and
efficient, the company's 110,000 plus employees achieved sales of more than $26 billion in 2010, through an active commitment to help individuals and organizations “Make the most of their energy.”

Our original general store and catalog business were built on the premise that all the merchandise we sell must be durable and above all - practical. We've maintained this tradition for more than 60 years, continually finding and sharing only the best classic products, unique and hard-to-find products. Your satisfaction is our top priority. That's why every item is backed by our no-hassle, no-fuss 100% guarantee meaning that we will exchange any item or refund your money if it does not meet with your satisfaction. We provide polite, courteous service and proudly uphold our Customer Bill of Rights. Eliot Orton (Photo – Gardner, Lyman, Eliot and Cabot Orton)
Over the years, many Vermont Country Store employees have volunteered to help build Habitat homes. Knowing that many people who work in Rutland County and are unable to find affordable and safe housing, the Vermont Country Store made a gift in 2015 that was a significant contribution to the whole house renovation that we completed in Fair Haven.
“We are extremely grateful to the Vermont Country Store and their employees for their tremendous support!” Chris Heintz, President Board of Directors who is pictured, left, with Ann Warrell, Community Action Coordinator, Vermont Country Store. Ann spoke for the Vermont Country Store at the dedication of the Fair Haven home in September 2016.
The Vermont Country Store upholds a long tradition of giving back to the community at large. Their philosophy is rooted in the belief that each of us has a responsibility to improve the health and vibrancy of our communities, and as a Vermont-based business, the Vermont Country Store is committed to continue to invest in the community by partnering with non-profit organizations that share this mindset. The Vermont Country Store's Community Partners program is committed to providing support in the communities where their employees live and work.

The Vision and Values of Wells Fargo
“Our values should guide every conversation, decision, and interaction. Our values should anchor every product and service we provide and every channel we operate.”
Documents such as this are rare these days in corporate America. Most companies have a mission statement and a set of core values, but few for as long as we’ve had The Vision & Values of Wells Fargo. Even fewer have resisted fads and remained faithful to their founding principles. We have stayed true to our vision for more than two decades.
In those two decades, a lot has changed. We’ve seen advances in technology and communications we could not have imagined only a few years ago. We’ve seen the U.S. population grow more diverse and the globalization of almost every aspect of our lives. We’ve witnessed periods of economic growth and decline and the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. We’ve seen the collapse of major financial institutions and a new wave of industry regulations. Through all of this, we’ve seen the needs and interests of our customers and stakeholders change, and we’ve adapted right along with them.
Our progress has not been perfect. The expectations of others, and the even higher expectations we have of ourselves, have not always been met. When we make mistakes, we admit them, we learn from them, and we keep moving forward with even more understanding and a deeper commitment to doing what’s right.
We are grateful to Wells Fargo for deciding to give us the deed to a home in Fair Haven on which the bank had been forced to foreclose. Their goal was to turn a house that had been badly neglected and needed a tremendous amount of work into a home that could provide good housing for a family in need. In addition to the gift of the land, Wells Fargo also made a significant cash contribution to help pay some of the construction cost. The gift of the property and the generous cash contribution was exactly what we needed to complete our first project. Chris Heintz, Board President
