May 31st - the slab was poured.
Wednesday, May 18th was a great day! The foundation was poured and the electric service for all three homes was put in place. First, the rainwater had to be pumped. Then, Carrara arrived at 11, and within an hour the concrete was poured inside the insulated concrete forms ensuring a high R value for the home. Teamwork made the dream work. On Saturday, April 23rd, over 50 people joined together to celebrate the start of the home for Rose and Josh Tabor. We were treated to a great lunch. Rose and Josh spoke about how much this home will mean to them. Click to see a video of the ceremony.

The hole for the foundation was dug and the conduit for the electricity was put in place on Friday, April 15, 2022.
Saturday, September 26th was a great day for the Alhallak family, for the many people who support Habitat's work in Rutland County, and for the community that is now home for the Alhallak family!

As of March 5h, good progress has been made. We will not finish the attic, but code requires us to install Sheetrock to minimize the possibility of fire. We have started to install the interior doors.
As of February 26th, most of the walls have been painted and most have the finish coat. The flooring is being laid, and the house looks great thanks to the great work of our volunteers and the leadership of our site supervisor, Al Williams.
As of 2-8-20 - Lots of good work has been accomplished with installing the Sheetrock throughout the house. There is still some work to be done to sand the joint compound. We will soon be ready to apply primer and finish coats to the walls.

We still have some insulation to finish in the attic. We have begun to hang Sheetrock. This is a big job and will take us several weeks. Finishing the Sheetrock is an art from.
A group from People's United Bank help insulate the house on November 13th.

A lot more was completed on the roof on September 22nd. It is ready for shingles.
September 18 - A group from GE joined forces with our regular builders. They did a tremendous job, and a lot of good work was accomplished!

September 4th and 7th - Fortunately, the thunderstorms held off on the 4th, and a lot of great work was accomplished. Galiano did a great job with the landscaping - a huge contribution. We had a core group of builders who worked exceptionally well together and now the interior walls on the first floor are framed. The next step will be to frame the second floor exterior and interior walls.

Ground Breaking Ceremony - over 50 people attended the ceremony. We were treated to a picture perfect summer day. Eric Solsaa, Matt Whitcombe, John Berryhill, spoke briefly and introduced Hussam and Hazar who spoke about how excited they are and how much they appreciate the opportunity they have to live in Rutland and to have been chosen to live in this new home. We thank Amanda Wheeler, freelance photographer, for allowing us to use some of her photos.
On Saturday, May 4th, about 50 people came together to dedicate the home on 27 Griswold Drive for Danielle Beckett and her family. Below are some photos of the people who attended.

January 14, 2019! - We have made good progress. As the photos show, each room is largely done, but each room has smaller details that need attention. Do come and help if you can. We greatly appreciate the tremendous support we have received.
Mudding 101 - The sheetrock has been hung, taped, and filled with joint compound. We are ready to start painting. We are most grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way. We know that it is hard to find time to help during the busy holidays and we greatly appreciate the dedication of our volunteers who are pushing hard to complete this home early in 2019! We are ready to paint and to install the baseboard, window, and door trim boards.
On Saturday, October 27th, a group from the Richards Insurance Agency came to help. Their involvement was facilitate by Caprice Hover of the United Way. They worked hard and had a great time. We are most appreciative of their help and their strong interest in the community in which they live and work.
Twenty-three volunteers from Allstate Insurance did a tremendous job on Saturday, September 16th. They came from all parts of Vermont, New Hampshire and two came from Pennsylvania! They worked hard - installed insulation in the ceiling, and put up siding. They had great spirit and had a lot of fun helping. At the end of their day, they presented Andy Salamon with a check for $10,000 to help purchase building supplies for the house! Wow, wow, and wow!

Volunteers from UBS joined with our core volunteers on Wednesday, August 22nd. Despite the rainy start, they accomplished a lot. We are most grateful to them for their good work and commitment to the community.
Volunteers from the People's United Bank helped on Wednesday, August 15th. They did a great job. We are most grateful to them for their help and their strong interest in creating affordable housing for Rutland area residents.
Staff from Ben and Jerry's did a great job. We are most appreciative of their strong interest in helping to provide affordable housing for lower-income area residents. And, we love their ice cream!
On Saturday, July 7th, a lot was accomplished. We poured a concrete footing, insulated the basement walls, and put up the trusses. It was a picture perfect day!
We have started to complete some minor repairs to Mary Roucoulet's home on 122 Pearl Street in Rutland to make her home safer and more affordable. The repairs are basic and do not require special expertise. We start work at 9 a.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Contact Paul Brown at 802-353-8700 if you have questions and can help.

Great small group of three students from CSJ helped on March 7th.

Tedesco Masonry volunteered to supply the material and labor to put a most beautiful wall under the front porch. They worked hard and quickly transformed the entrance to the Johnson home. We are most appreciative!
On Wednesday and Saturday, February 21st and 24th, more baseboard was painted and the process of moving tools from the house to the trailer began.
On Wednesday, February 14th, students from the College of St. Joseph joined with our core builders and painted walls on the second floor.
A group from VSECU did a great job helping - mostly with painting.
There is a lot of interior work to complete. The final coats of paint need to be applied to the walls. The trim boards for the windows and doors have been primed. They need to be cut and put into place. Then, the bathroom cabinets, sinks, and toilets need to be installed. There is lots to be done but it is taking shape very nicely.
Our focus now is on applying the primer and finish coats on the walls. Then, we will prime and paint the baseboard and window and door trim. Once done, we will lay the laminate floor on the second floor. Thanks to the great work of many volunteers, things are coming together nicely.

On Saturday, December 16th a group from Castleton University came to help. They worked most on hanging Sheetrock, but also cleaned the interior and around the outside of the house. They worked hard and did a great job. On Wednesday, December 13th, our core volunteers continued to hand Sheetrock and made good progress. On Saturday, December 9th we made good progress with the Sheetrock. The mechanical room is almost done. This is key because Bill Loshen, our plumber, can now install the heat for the home. Heat will make it comfortable for volunteers to work and the joint compound will dry. |

On November 15th, we spread topsoil on the front yard and insulated the walls with cellulose.

On November 11th, we worked mostly indoors. Skip worked on the stair railings, Al, Steve, and others put up the netting that will hold the blown in insulation in place.
On November 8th, we worked on building the front porch. It was designed by John Berryhill to fit with the other houses on Cleveland Avenue.
On Saturday, November 4th, seven volunteers from The Vermont Country Store helped with the siding and building the back porch. We are very grateful to them for their help and their keen interest and support for our effort to bring more affordable housing to Rutland.

A group from GE Aviation helped on Wednesday, October 26th. They worked hard and accomplished a lot. We are grateful to them for their help.
On Saturday, October 21st, a group from the Grace Congregational Church, joined our core volunteers. They worked indoors preparing the walls for insulation. We greatly appreciate their help.
On Thursday, Thursday, October 12th, students from Stafford Tech worked with Robbie Stubbins to wire the home. They learned a lot and did a great job.

On Wednesday, October 11th, Barb Lacy, Irene and grandson, Thomas Walker, and Naomi Adams from Grace Church joined with our regular volunteers Paul, Al, Skip, AJ, and Steve. David Lacy came by for a visit and brought homemade cookies. Architect John Berryhill and Board Chair Dave Pearson also came to check on our progress.

On Wednesday, September 6th, we were hampered by rain. Ray and Al worked on building more roof trusses.

On Saturday, August 30th members of the College of St. Joseph's baseball team did a great job working on the foundation and digging a trench for the water connection.

Wednesday, August 16th was a classic end of the summer day. A group of Castleton University students joined with our regular volunteers, to continue work on the framing. Chris worked on the fence in the back of the yard.
Saturday, August 12th, was a very productive day. The second story interior and exterior walls were built and the stairs are in. A safety rail around 2nd story installed.
Wednesday, August 9th, we started to build the exterior walls for the second floor.

July 22nd - We made the door for the shed, and laid the blue board insulation over the stones in preparation for the slab. The plumber needs to lay out the pipes for the radiant heat - then the slab can be poured.
July 19th - We spread the stones in preparation for pouring the slab. Campers from the Stafford Tech Carpenter Camp did a great job fixing the fence that had been badly damaged when wind had blown a large branch onto it.
July 14 and 15th - We had a great two days on the site! We received a coffee donation from McDonald's, donuts donation from Jones' Bakery and 3 large pepperoni pizzas from Heather at Little Caesars.
