Putting Faith into Action --- "It always seems impossible until it is done." Nelson Mandela
Habitat for Humanity's goal is to become a world leader in bringing people of diverse religions together to overcome poverty, with housing as a core issue. Habitat is a faith-based organization that realizes faith must be coupled with works and action. Habitat for Humanity is proud of its Christian roots, but Habitat has always been centered on people helping people of all faiths and no faith to have a safe, sufficient, and affordable place to call their home. We reach out to all congregations in the Rutland area to become involved and invested in supporting this goal.
.
Below are some examples of ways to put your faith into action. In an ideal world, people from different congregations will join together to help with
• A Habitat build.
• Advocacy for affordable housing.
• Neighborhood Revitalization Initiatives
• Resource development.
• Global Village trips.
• Community events focusing on poverty housing awareness.
• Habitat youth organizations.
• Disaster response.
• Communications and the media.
We are grateful to the congregations that have been involved since our founding in 2014. We hope that many other congregations will join them. There is much to do, it is not always easy, but, working together to achieve a common goal such as the end of poverty housing in Rutland County, is always fulfilling and fun.

federated Church of Castleton
The charter for Castleton was granted by Governor Benning Wentworth of New Hampshire on September 22, 1761. Nine years later, in 1770, land was set aside for the propagation of the Gospel. Religious services were held in various homes during the 1770s. One Sunday the service was being held in the home of George Foote, one-half mile east of the village, near Fort Warren, when it had to be broken up because the enemy was approaching.
The Congregational Church Society of Castleton was organized June 7, 1784 in a wartime storehouse which was adapted for worship services. During the Town Meeting of 1786, it was voted to build a Meeting House near the old storehouse. During this period, the town and church operated very closely; for instance, church offerings, or tithes, were based on one’s property tax to the town.
The ecumenical movement of the 1950s brought about the formation of the United Church of Christ. The Federated Church of Castleton voted on May 15, 1980 to become a United Church of Christ Church.
Our church has had a long history in Castleton, and continues to provide worship, hospitality, and spirituality to our church members and community.
Rev. Robert A. Noble, III, Senior Minister
Rev. Dr. Steven E. Berry, Associate Minister
Missions We SupportOur church supports many mission projects both locally and internationally. Here are just some of our projects:
We are very happy that the Federated Church of Castleton has included Habitat for Humanity of Rutland County among the organizations that they support.

Missions We SupportOur church supports many mission projects both locally and internationally. Here are just some of our projects:
- Castleton Cares- 468-2444 – they provide emergency assistance and food to Castleton residents.
- Rutland Dismas House– they provide housing and counseling to former prisoners. We support the evening meal program by donating a meal and having dinner with the residents and staff on the third Wednesday every other month (Feb/April/June/August/October/December).
- One Great Hour of Sharing offering – each year we take an offering on Palm Sunday for OGHS. The money raised supports the mission efforts of UCC and UMC congregations.
- Camp Agape this Vermont camp provides an opportunity for Vermont children to spend a week with other kids we have at least one parent who is incarcerated. The camp is free of charge to the campers and is supported by many Vermont UCC churches.
- Church World Services Crop Walk – every September our church participates in the walk.
- Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS – we made a yearly donation in the fall to support the efforts of this organization.
- Heal the Children Foundation - We support this International ministry founded by a local gal, Jennifer Wright.
