March 24, 2018 was a very special day for the Johnson family, Habitat volunteers and for the Rutland County community. We celebrated the dedication of their beautiful new home at 42 Cleveland Avenue.
3,824 hours in total were contributed by 169 different volunteers
The bulk of those hours were contributed by a group we refer to as our core builders. Al Williams logged 474 hours as site supervisor. Many people know how to build – but Al not only knows how to build, but he has a special knack for teaching and working with unskilled volunteers. The top five volunteers were: AJ Engel 331 Skip Abelson 291 Ray Washburn 298 Paul Brown 277 Steve Follett 359
Groups from many area businesses scheduled work days.
Some of the groups included •GE Aviation •Berkshire Bank •UBS •The Vermont Country Store •People’s United Bank •Grace Church •Knights of Columbus •NeighborWorks •Middlebury College •Vacations that Give (from MA) •Dismas House
Groups from area educational institutions were a great help. •College of St. Joseph •Castleton University – Habitat Club •Castleton Upward Bound •Stafford Tech – helped with plumbing and electric •Stafford Tech Construction Camp •Community College of Vermont
NeighborWorks of Western Vermont did a tremendous job adding spirit and vitality to the northwest neighborhood. With this property, they tore down, removed the previous house, and got things ready for us to build. They have completed several whole house renovations, organized gatherings with movies and food, women’s build courses, and a cooking class for teens and more…We are pleased to be able to work with them – our community owes them a lot. They applied for a grant and allocated a substantial part of that grant to help pay for building supplies for this home.
