Opportunities for Home Ownership
  • Our goal is to create an environment of hope, and dignity.   A Habitat Home is not a “handout,” it is a “hand up.”

    Homes are sold at cost and mortgages are zero percent interest.
    Partner home-buyers must complete 200 hours of work on their home or another Habitat Project.
Habitat homes are simple, sufficient, energy efficient homes that match the household's size.

 Participating in a Habitat program is hard work, but the benefits of home-ownership are worth it.

Benefits of Home Ownership
National studies have shown that
  • Children often
    • Do better in school
    • Behave better
    • Have a higher High School Graduation rate
  • Adults often
    • Seek further education
    • Upgrade job skills
    • Participate in community activities
    • Increase their household income.

      Better Homes make stronger households, and, in turn, contribute to better communities.

Home buyer partners are selected based on their:
1) Need for adequate shelter;
2) Ability to pay for the Habitat for Humanity home;
3) Willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity.
4) Residency or employment in Rutland County for at least one year at the time of the application.
